About Horus A

Horus A is AeroVironment’s solar-powered high-altitude aircraft developed from Sunglider for government applications. It combines revised avionics, added autonomy and redundant systems with capacity for a 150-pound payload and 1.5 kW of payload power. The platform is intended to carry sensing and communications equipment above conventional aircraft operating altitudes.

In the flight test announced in October 2024, Horus A operated radar and a mesh-network radio together and transmitted real-time data. Its satellite communications system supports links beyond ground-radio coverage. The test programme evaluates the aircraft and payload combination as part of development toward extended stratospheric missions.
