About NEXUS

NEXUS is Katalyst Space's multi-mission robotic spacecraft for satellite servicing and on-orbit assembly. It combines orbital manoeuvring and rendezvous sensors with a Split Stewart Platform robotic arm system designed to grapple structures, including satellites without purpose-built docking interfaces. Two payload bays are intended to carry hardware that the spacecraft can install on other satellites, allowing mission equipment to be added after launch.

The platform is being developed for missions that combine transport, capture and manipulation. Under the ASGARD programme announced in September 2026, NEXUS is planned to assemble modular tiles developed by the US Naval Research Laboratory in low Earth orbit. The assembled structure would collect solar energy and transmit it to Earth as microwave energy. ASGARD remains a future demonstration, with robotic assembly intended to enable structures larger than a single launch vehicle can carry fully assembled.

Timeline

  • Katalyst Space selected for OECIF ASGARD robotic assembly programme

2026-09-21 - Contract Award - NEXUS is planned to launch with modular tiles under development by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and assemble them using robotic arms. The assembled system is intended to collect solar energy, convert it to microwave energy and transmit power to Earth. Contract value was not disclosed, and the orbital assembly remains a future demonstration rather than a completed operation.
