About Perseverance Rover
NASA's Perseverance is a six-wheeled planetary rover operating in Mars' Jezero Crater. The 1,025-kilogram vehicle performs surface science, images and analyses geological targets, collects sealed rock cores for potential future retrieval and uses autonomous navigation to assist movement between locations selected by mission teams.
The rover measures about three metres long, 2.7 metres wide and 2.2 metres high. Its instruments also study the Martian environment and demonstrate technologies relevant to future exploration. Perseverance is remotely supervised across interplanetary communication delays; autonomous driving supports route execution, while scientific priorities and major operational decisions remain with the mission team.
