About L42
L42 is an uncrewed survey vessel with a modular payload arrangement built around two moonpools and automatic instrument lifters. A sound-velocity-profile winch, towing winch and additional mounting interfaces support combinations of multibeam, sub-bottom, side-scan and other survey instruments. The arrangement supports installation and maintenance of different sensor packages for offshore missions.
Its catamaran hull uses four independent electric outboards powered by two generators. Differential thrust provides steering, allowing the remaining motors to preserve manoeuvrability after a single motor fails. OceanAlpha's control system combines mission planning, autonomous navigation and situational awareness, with the manufacturer specifying up to eight days of operation and more than 1,500 km of range.
