About

About CUE7

CUE7 is Toyota's seventh-generation AI basketball robot, developed to study perception, ball control and coordinated motion. It made its public game debut at an Alvark Tokyo home game in April 2026. The redesigned wheeled platform adds smoother movement around the court and dribbling to the shooting skills developed through earlier CUE generations.

The CUE project began in 2017 through volunteers from the Toyota Engineering Society. CUE7 represents a substantial hardware and control redesign, with changes intended to improve movement, responsiveness and the range of basketball actions. The team uses demonstrations on a real court to test how the robot senses and acts in a dynamic environment. CUE7 remains a research and public-demonstration platform within Toyota's basketball-robot programme.

Timeline

  • Toyota CUE7 adopts edge-AI compute supplied by Ryosan Ryoyo

2026-10-06 - Capability - The configuration uses NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin Industrial, Connect Tech AGX202 and Connect Tech JCB002. Toyota selected the hardware for its compact, lightweight form and high-precision real-time recognition of the ball and surroundings. The research explores autonomous decisions and control for dribbling in response to irregular ball movement and changes in the environment.
