About
About Wayve AI Driver
Wayve AI Driver is the company's learned autonomous-driving stack for passenger vehicles. Wayve trains the system from driving data to perceive road context, reason about interactions and produce vehicle controls without relying on a separately hand-coded rule for every situation.
The system entered its first public commercial deployment on Uber in London in September 2026. The initial Ford Mustang Mach-E service remains supervised by an onboard safety driver, so the launch establishes public paid-service use rather than fully driverless operation.

Timeline
- Wayve demonstrates supervised AI driving across two Stellantis platforms
2026-10-09 - Demonstration - Both vehicles progressed from integration to real-world road testing in less than four weeks. The demonstration builds on an earlier Jeep Grand Cherokee integration under the May 2026 partnership. A North American launch of supervised highway and urban driving assistance is targeted for 2028.
Source - Nissan selects Valeo as Tier-1 for next-generation ProPILOT with Wayve AI Driver
2026-10-01 - Contract Award - Valeo will act as lead system integrator, combining its sensor portfolio and ADAS Domain Controller with Wayve’s driving software. Valeo, Nissan and Wayve will validate and industrialise the solution for mass-production vehicles.
Source - Wayve and Uber launch supervised autonomous rides in London
2026-09-03 - Deployment - Passengers can accept a Wayve match or switch to a conventional ride before pickup, with no extra charge. A TfL-licensed private-hire driver supervises each trip; the initial operating area excludes London airports. The Uber-designed cabin screens support 64 languages and show the planned route.
Source - Wayve introduces GAIA-4 for closed-loop autonomous-driving simulation
2026-08-03 - Research Publication - GAIA-4 reconstructs logged road scenes directly from recorded sensor data without HD maps, hand-built scene graphs or a separate annotation stack. Its world-on-rails mode changes the ego vehicle trajectory while holding other road users to their logged behaviour, providing a deterministic comparison baseline. The model generates coherent camera and radar observations and also supports reactive-agent scenarios for interactive safety evaluation.
