About Generalist
Generalist develops foundation-model software for robots performing physical manipulation tasks.
Its GEN-1 system is trained to transfer learned behaviour across different robot embodiments, end effectors and working environments. Public demonstrations focus on autonomous handling and task execution, with the company positioning the model as a reusable intelligence layer for factories, warehouses, laboratories and other physical settings. Hardware capability remains determined by the integrated robot and tooling.

- Generalist releases GEN-1.5 with one-shot physical-task learning
2026-08-19 - Research Publication - Across 10 tasks, Generalist reports 59% average success from one 3–12 second in-context demonstration and 83% after 10 gradient steps on five minutes of task data. The multimodal model maintains 30 seconds of video context alongside sensor, language and proprioceptive inputs, and produces action trajectories at 100 Hz. The release also shows prompts transferring from simulation to a physical robot and, in some cases, from human-hand demonstrations to immediate robot execution.
Source - Generalist reports up to 10–20× gains in GEN-1 actuator adaptation
2026-08-04 - Research Publication - The update targets low-level adaptation to new actuators and robot embodiments rather than a new GEN-1 model release. Generalist reports gains of up to 10–20 times on internal benchmarks, without publishing the benchmark protocol or absolute scores. The company showed the improvement on high-precision disassembly of parts from a NIST board.

The integration completed more than 1,800 autonomous block-stacking runs and 200 box-folding runs without intervention. The disclosed validation recorded 99% task success and execution about three times faster. GEN-1 itself debuted in April; the new event is the validated Elite Robots hardware integration.
Source - 2026-06-04 - Funding - Generalist AI raises $400M at $2B valuation for robotics foundation models
Generalist AI raised $400 million in funding at a $2 billion valuation including the new capital. Radical Ventures led the round, with participation from 8VC, Union Square Ventures, Hanabi Capital, Nvidia and Bezos Expeditions. The funding supports development of Generalist's robotics AI models, including GEN-1, for broader physical-task capability.
Source - 2026-04-02 - Product Launch - Generalist AI releases GEN-1, a general-purpose robotics AI model achieving 99% success rates on physical tasks
Generalist introduced GEN-1 as its latest milestone in scaling robot learning and positioned it as a general-purpose AI model for simple physical tasks. The company said GEN-1 reached 99 percent success rates on the showcased tasks, ran roughly 3 times faster, and adapted in real time to unexpected scenarios. Generalist also said the displayed results used only about one hour of robot data, presenting GEN-1 as a step down in task-specific data requirements.
Source - 2026-03-24 - Demonstration - Generalist gives first public live demo of GEN-0 at NVIDIA GTC
Generalist said its GEN-0 model ran in its first public live demo during NVIDIA GTC on a new mobile-manipulation system built from UR7e arms, a MiR base, and a Vention frame. The company said it had only a handful of days to prepare on the new hardware yet ran the demo throughout open exhibit hours without using data collected inside the GTC hall. Generalist framed the result as evidence that its foundation model could generalize quickly to new robots and new environments.
Source - 2026-01-29 - Capability - Generalist publishes physical commonsense research update
Generalist published a research update arguing that large-scale physical interaction data was yielding emergent physical commonsense in robot behavior. The company described handheld data-collection devices designed to preserve reactive human manipulation behavior and linked that data engine to better recovery, transfer, and low-data adaptation. The post also pointed back to earlier one-shot assembly and long-horizon manipulation results as evidence of broader model competence.
Source - 2025-11-04 - Product Launch - Generalist introduces GEN-0 embodied foundation model
Generalist introduced GEN-0 as a new class of embodied foundation model trained directly on high-fidelity physical interaction data. The company said GEN-0 had scaled past 10B parameters, showed a phase transition around 7B in robotics pretraining, and worked across 6DoF, 7DoF, and 16+DoF semi-humanoid systems. Generalist also disclosed that its in-house pretraining corpus had reached more than 270,000 hours of real-world manipulation data and was growing by over 10,000 hours per week.
Source - 2025-09-24 - Capability - Generalist shows one-shot Lego assembly with end-to-end visuomotor control
Generalist published a one-shot assembly result in which a robot observes a Lego structure and then builds a copy without task-specific engineering or custom instructions. The company framed the task as a stress test for visual understanding, dexterity, and sequential reasoning under sub-millimeter assembly constraints. Generalist said the system relied on end-to-end visuomotor control rather than a staged symbolic pipeline.
Source - 2025-06-17 - Capability - Generalist publishes research preview of autonomous dexterous manipulation system
Generalist shared its first public research preview showing fully autonomous end-to-end models controlling robots in real time across dexterous manipulation tasks. The company highlighted cross-embodiment transfer across different robot arms, zero task data in some evaluated environments, and 100 Hz control from pixels and sensor inputs. The preview established the company's initial public technical baseline ahead of later GEN-series model releases.
Source - 2025-03-19 - Funding - Generalist discloses inception backing from Boldstart Ventures and NVentures
Boldstart Ventures and NVentures co-led the initial financing. The startup was still operating in stealth, with a stated goal of making general-purpose robots a reality. Co-founder and CEO Pete Florence previously worked on robotics and AI at Google DeepMind.
