About
About Joby Aviation
Joby Aviation develops electric vertical-take-off-and-landing aircraft for a planned piloted air-taxi service and autonomous flight technology for defence and future commercial applications.
Joby acquired Xwing’s autonomy division and Superpilot technology in 2024. During the US Air Force-led REFORPAC exercise in 2025, Superpilot completed more than 7,000 miles and 40 flight hours of autonomous operation; Joby’s principal commercial aircraft programme remains piloted.

Notes
Profile notes
- Joby's stated goal of commercial service in 2025 passed before certification was complete
reviewed 2026-07-19 - In October 2023, founder JoeBen Bevirt said Joby's goal remained to achieve commercial service in 2025 and said that timing was doable. The year passed while the aircraft remained in certification and test activity, so the statement is a missed company goal rather than a completed launch or a formal contractual commitment.
