About Volz Servos

Volz Servos develops and manufactures electromechanical actuators for uncrewed aircraft, advanced air mobility and other demanding applications. Its servos move flight-control surfaces and payload mechanisms, with brushless motors, position feedback and communication options selected for each airframe. Redundant designs, environmental protection and mechanical gear protection address the reliability requirements of long-endurance and safety-critical systems.

Founded in 1983, the family-run German manufacturer combines actuator engineering with aviation certification support. Its subsidiary Aircraft Electronic Engineering adds approved aviation production, maintenance and design capabilities, while Volz's quality-management system is certified to EN/AS 9100. Customers include Dufour Aerospace, which selected its actuators for the Aero2, and Kraus Hamdani Aerospace, whose K1000ULE uses four DA 15-N.ISS servos. Airframe-specific work includes redundant actuation, configurable interfaces and mechanical protection against shock loads.

Timeline

Events

  • 2023-09-11 - Partnership - Dufour Aerospace selects Volz actuators for Aero2 cargo UAS

Volz supplies the fully redundant DA 26-D for flight-control surfaces and the compact DA 15-T fly-by-wire throttle actuator. The DA 26-D duplicates motors, control and communications electronics and power supply, while its position sensor uses a three-channel voting design. Dufour designed Aero2 for medium- and long-range critical cargo missions carrying payloads up to 40 kilograms.

  • 2023-06-20 - Partnership - Volz and Skydweller partner on next-generation actuators

The program built on a 2020 collaboration that selected Volz DA-58 and DA-30 actuators for Skydweller testing. The actuator work supported Skydweller flight-control reliability through redundant electromechanical systems. Skydweller had received experimental airworthiness certification in Spain and tested its fly-by-wire actuation control system.
