About Sniffer Robotics

Sniffer Robotics provides aerial methane measurement for landfills, renewable-natural-gas plants and other terrestrial facilities. Its Gen II SnifferDRONE payload mounts on a commercial quadcopter and draws air through a weighted hose and nozzle close to the ground, feeding an onboard infrared methane detector while following a programmed survey grid.

Laser terrain following maintains sampling height, and measurements are linked to GPS coordinates three times per second. SnifferView processes the readings into ArcGIS-compatible maps, leak locations and emissions estimates, while a mobile application directs technicians to repair points. The OTM-51 workflow is approved for US and Canadian landfill compliance monitoring and can be repeated over the same paths to measure remediation results.

  • 2023-05-02 - Funding - Sniffer Robotics closes USD 2 million seed round

Michigan Rise, Naruhisa Nakagawa of Caygan Capital and Abhishek Desai of Desai Ventures also participated. • 2022-12-15 - Regulatory - EPA approves SnifferDRONE method for landfill monitoring

OTM-51 permits the SnifferDRONE approach as an alternative to specified Method 21 surface-emissions procedures at regulated landfills. EPA concluded that the drone-based method was typically no less stringent and often more conservative than existing compliance procedures. The approval includes operational limitations, reporting requirements and regulator-notification conditions for facilities using the method.

  • 2021-05-18 - Product Launch - Sniffer Robotics launches Field Ops mobile software

The software is built on Esri ArcGIS Field Maps and is available on iOS and Android devices. It alerts site managers when technicians log emissions or cover-integrity issues and provides coordinates, photographs and concentration data. Sniffer Robotics offers the landfill-specific workflows, automation and back-end support through an annual subscription.
