About
About Fabmatics
Fabmatics was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Dresden, Germany. The company develops hardware and software for material transport, handling, storage, identification and localisation in semiconductor fabs and other high-technology production environments. It employs around 300 people across Germany and the United States and has been part of SCIO Automation Group since 2023.
Its robotics portfolio includes cleanroom-compatible autonomous mobile robots, wafer and reticle handling systems, robotic cells and fleet or factory-integration software. Fabmatics can modernise existing 200 mm fabs as well as design material-flow automation for new facilities. That makes it a system builder rather than a generic customer of robotics. Deployment counts, order values and customer-specific throughput improvements are not consistently disclosed, so Korthos separates the verified product scope from unsupported commercial-scale assumptions.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-07-30 - Demonstration - Fabmatics validates HERO Scout in Infineon Dresden cleanroom trial
The trial used dummy reticle SMIF pods and 200 mm wafer carriers across transport, handling and narrow-aisle navigation scenarios. A vision-guided gripper handled load-port position deviations without reteaching, while obstacle and personnel-interaction tests confirmed safe operation. The prototype combined a six-axis collaborative arm with SLAM-based route learning, AI-enabled local control and inductive on-the-fly charging.
Source - 2025-06-06 - Partnership - Fabmatics appoints BRUX Japan as exclusive distributor
BRUX Japan had served as Fabmatics’ Japanese service partner since September 2023 before adding exclusive distribution responsibilities. The arrangement covers local consulting, implementation and after-sales support for cleanroom automation customers. Fabmatics said its systems were already operating at leading semiconductor manufacturers in Japan when the agreement was signed.
Source - 2024-08-15 - Product Launch - Fabmatics launches HERO Scout for automated reticle handling
The system uses a six-axis collaborative arm to load and unload mask load ports from 200 mm to 1,700 mm high. Its compact 660 by 580 mm footprint, differential drive and 3D cameras support navigation through narrow cleanroom aisles. The technical sheet specifies ISO 2 cleanroom certification, two onboard buffers, SLAM-based commissioning and inductive on-the-fly charging.
Source - 2024-04-08 - Production Milestone - Fabmatics reports 100 HERO Fab robots manufactured and commissioned
Fabmatics said the fleet was operating at semiconductor manufacturers across Europe, Asia and the United States. HERO Fab variants serve both 200 mm and 300 mm cleanrooms, transporting wafer carriers between process tools, stockers and racks. The mobile systems combine automated transport with loading and unloading of process equipment for continuous cleanroom operation.
Source - 2023-12-27 - Acquisition - Fabmatics becomes part of SCIO Automation after acquisition closes
The deal closed on 27 December 2023 after the transaction had been agreed on 30 October subject to approvals. Fabmatics and its U.S. subsidiary became part of SCIO while Fabmatics continued to operate as an independent company brand. The acquisition combined Fabmatics’ cleanroom material-flow systems with SCIO’s wider production and logistics automation portfolio.
