Hanson Robotics and Patrick Tresset enable Sophia to draw portraits
Hanson Robotics integrated an artistic drawing pipeline developed with Patrick Tresset into Sophia’s arm-control system.

Evidence notes
- The workflow captures a subject, isolates the foreground and converts the image into curves using an algorithm developed with Tresset.
- A ROS bridge sends segmented drawing paths to Sophia’s inverse-kinematics controller, while wrist torque control manages pen contact.
Company context
Hanson Robotics builds expressive humanoid and social robots, including Sophia, for human-robot interaction, education, research and public engagement.
