About Distalmotion
Distalmotion is a Swiss medical-device company that develops and manufactures the DEXTER Robotic Surgery System. Founded in 2012 as a spin-off from EPFL's Robotics Lab, the company designed DEXTER to integrate robotic assistance into established laparoscopic workflows. Surgeons operate from a sterile bedside console and can move between robotic and conventional techniques while retaining access to the patient and operating-room team.
DEXTER received CE marking in 2020 and began clinical use in 2021. US market authorization started with adult inguinal-hernia repair in 2024 and has expanded to additional general-surgery and gynecologic procedures; indications remain jurisdiction-specific. Distalmotion is headquartered in Lausanne and sells the system to hospitals and ambulatory surgery centres in the United States and Europe.
