About Microsoft
Microsoft develops cloud, developer and AI infrastructure used in robotics, and Microsoft Research is building physical-AI models for robot control. Rho-alpha is its first Phi-derived robotics model, translating natural-language instructions into control signals for bimanual manipulation.
The model adds tactile input to vision-language-action learning and is being evaluated on dual-arm systems and humanoid robots. It is available through a research early-access programme, with a later Microsoft Foundry release planned; its training work also uses NVIDIA Isaac Sim on Azure.
