About MOBY Robotics
MOBY Robotics is developing an autonomous system for surveying and collecting polymetallic nodules from the deep ocean. NEMO underwater vehicles map the seabed and identify deposits, while swarms of SCOOBEE crawlers use onboard vision to select nodules and carry them to a subsea SmartLift collection hub.
The proposed architecture operates at depths of up to 6,000 metres. A solar-powered Mineral Production Platform raises filled hubs to the surface, and support vessels move recovered material onward. Modular pods and multiple coordinated robots are intended to scale coverage while a mesh collection surface lets water and fine sediment pass through. The company remains in technology development and partnership work, including demonstrations of its NEMO and SCOOBEE platforms.
