About Scantinel Photonics
Scantinel develops 1550-nanometre frequency-modulated continuous-wave lidar for vehicles and autonomous machines. Its coherent optical architecture measures distance and radial velocity directly, combining photonic integrated circuits with beam steering to reduce the size and complexity of long-range sensors. The technology is being developed for commercial vehicles, passenger-car driver assistance and industrial perception.
The business originated within ZEISS in 2016 and became independent in 2019. MicroVision completed the acquisition of selected assets from Scantinel Photonics GmbH's FMCW lidar business on 1 January 2026, continuing the technology through Scantinel GmbH in Ulm. The transaction brought the sensor technology and engineering team into MicroVision's portfolio alongside its time-of-flight lidars. MicroVision reported approximately $2.2 million in purchase consideration, including funding supplied between signing and closing.

Total purchase consideration was approximately $2.2 million, including operating funding advanced between signing and closing. The acquisition was negotiated during Scantinel's insolvency proceedings, with acquired technology valued at approximately $1.9 million in the preliminary allocation. The acquired business was consolidated from 1 January 2026 and recorded no revenue in the first quarter.

The massively parallel photonic integrated circuit combines detection and scanning on the same platform as the company's integrated laser. The architecture uses a CMOS-foundry-compatible photonic platform for solid-state automotive lidar. In-system calibration is designed to reduce manufacturing equipment, factory-floor requirements and production time.

PhotonDelta joined existing investors Scania Growth Capital and ZEISS Ventures in the financing. The capital was allocated to customer rollout and faster development of the company’s FMCW LiDAR devices. Scantinel said its architecture targets long-range detection beyond 300 metres through photonic integration and solid-state scanning.
