About Sierra-Olympia Technologies
Sierra-Olympia Technologies designs and manufactures cooled and uncooled infrared camera cores, optics and integrated imaging systems for equipment makers and specialist operators. Founded in 1995 and acquired by Hood Technology in 2010, the Hood River, Oregon business combines optical, electronic, software and mechanical engineering for standard products and customer-specific integrations. Its portfolio spans long-wave and mid-wave infrared sensors, fixed and zoom optics, onboard processing and video interfaces.
Low-size, weight and power camera cores can be embedded in crewed or uncrewed aircraft for inspection, surveillance, gas detection, wildlife monitoring and search missions. Other systems serve mobile ground platforms, fixed security and optical-gas-imaging equipment. Sierra-Olympia provides the thermal sensing and image-processing layer; vehicle autonomy, mission planning and interpretation of inspection results remain functions of the integrating platform and operator.

The camera uses a 640×512 DRS Tenum detector with a 10 µm pixel pitch and operates at up to 60 Hz. A five-times continuous optical zoom and electronic focus are paired with onboard contrast enhancement. USB, SDI and MIPI interfaces support integration across embedded imaging architectures.

The change took effect on 16 December 2022 after a legal restriction prevented continued use of the former name. Hood Technology ownership and the company’s operating structure remained unchanged. Existing email addresses continued to work during the transition to the sierraolympia.com domain.
