About Astra
Astra was an upper-body humanoid platform used to develop coordinated arm movement, manipulation and interaction around people. Its teleoperated torso architecture allowed Apptronik to study compact actuation, human-aware physical design and useful task execution without coupling every experiment to a bipedal walking system.
The platform brought together lessons in perception, control and manipulation that later informed Apollo’s upper body and human-facing design. Astra is now part of Apptronik’s historical development lineage alongside earlier biped, exoskeleton and manipulation systems. Astra is a historical predecessor research platform in Apptronik’s humanoid-development lineage.
