Ocean Infinity’s Armada A78 is a 78-metre steel DP2 multirole vessel for geophysical survey, geotechnical sampling and subsea inspection, maintenance and repair. Hull-mounted sensors, towed equipment, ROVs, seabed drills and cone-penetration systems can be deployed from the installed working areas. A removable aft bulwark also supports launch of Ocean Infinity AUVs over the stern.

The moonpool carries a modular automated launch-and-recovery system that can be operated through Ocean Infinity’s remote-control-centre network. Armada A78 remains lean-crewed, with facilities for up to 16 marine and payload personnel, and should not be described as a wholly uncrewed ship. The vessel includes tank spaces, fuel-cell rooms and an ammonia-ready notation for future upgrades; those provisions do not establish current ammonia propulsion.

Timeline

  • First 78-metre Armada vessel begins sea trials

    2022-09-29 - Demonstration - The ship is part of Ocean Infinity’s remotely operated Armada programme. VARD built the vessel at its Vietnamese facilities. The trial marked vessel testing, not the start of full commercial remote operation.
