About Ampelmann

Ampelmann combines motion-compensated offshore access systems with managed cargo-transfer services for wind-energy and marine operators. Its Cargo Drone Services team plans flights, supervises aircraft operations and uses automated cargo pickup to move tools, maintenance parts and safety equipment between service vessels and offshore turbines.

The service entered the market in 2024 and has since been integrated into European offshore-maintenance programmes. During a six-week 2026 campaign at the Triton Knoll wind farm, Ampelmann completed more than 250 flights and moved over nine tonnes of cargo, with loads of up to 80 kilograms. Founder and chief executive Jan van der Tempel continues to lead the Delft-based company.

Timeline

Events

  • 2026-09-21 - Deployment - Ampelmann completes six-week cargo-drone campaign at Triton Knoll

More than 250 flights moved over nine tonnes of tools, maintenance parts and safety equipment between a service operation vessel and turbines during August and September. The supervised drones carried loads of up to 80 kg, while Ampelmann software automated routine vessel-to-turbine flight execution and an unmanned winch-and-hook system automated cargo pickup. Ampelmann said the workflow increased technicians’ effective tool time by 15–20%; the campaign integrated drone movements into day-to-day wind-farm planning rather than running a one-off demonstration.
