About DARWIN Biomed
DARWIN Biomed develops mobility technology for older adults and people at risk of falling. Its principal product, Michelangelo, is an intelligent rollator designed to detect unstable movement and intervene before a fall while preserving the user's ability to walk independently. The work combines mechanical design, sensing and controlled wheels around the familiar form of a walking aid.
Michelangelo grew from the earlier SPROUT prototype, which was tested with older users and care specialists to refine active assistance for uneven ground, turns and other risky situations. The company reached a minimum commercial prototype in 2024 and began controlled-environment use under licence in 2025. Its current commercial development remains focused on mobility support and fall prevention rather than a broad portfolio of rehabilitation robots.
