About HOLON
HOLON was created in 2022 when BENTELER renamed and refocused its EV Systems unit around fully electric autonomous movers. The company is based in Paderborn and operates as an independent BENTELER subsidiary, giving it access to automotive engineering and industrialisation capabilities while maintaining a dedicated autonomous-mobility product organisation.
HOLON urban is designed as an accessible, bidirectional shuttle built to automotive standards, with space for up to 15 passengers, a maximum speed of 60 km/h and a stated range of roughly 290 kilometres. HOLON supplies the vehicle-development layer in a broader service model: ioki contributes routing and mobility software, while BENTELER Mobility supports fleet operation, infrastructure and financing. Public-road testing and planned series production make the company more than a concept-vehicle programme, although broad commercial service remains dependent on local approvals and deployment partners.

- 2025-11-13 - Regulatory - HOLON receives nationwide German approval to test HOLON urban
The first planned use is the ALIKE project in Hamburg, whose operating area covers roughly 37 square kilometres. During the approved tests, HOLON urban performs the driving task autonomously while an onboard safety driver supervises and can intervene. The permit runs through the end of 2026 and covers federal, state and district roads across Germany, while excluding motorways.

BorgWarner will supply its NMC 5AKM 157 cylindrical-cell battery system for HOLON urban, with each shuttle using two 57 kWh battery packs. The modular packs include replaceable contactor boxes, a multi-pack controller, stainless-steel protection and active liquid cooling. The contract is BorgWarner’s first battery-technology supply for autonomous vehicles produced in North America, with manufacturing scheduled to start in Q2 2027 in South Carolina.
