About
About Iridium Communications
Iridium Communications operates a cross-linked low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation that provides voice, data, Internet of Things and positioning services across the globe, including oceans and polar regions. Customers reach the network through certified terminals and service providers, using narrowband or broadband links selected for the mission's data volume, antenna, power and environmental requirements.
Autonomous aircraft, surface vessels and subsea systems use Iridium connectivity for telemetry, health monitoring, command updates and mission-data transfer beyond terrestrial coverage. Compact terminals suit vehicles with constrained size and power, while Iridium Certus equipment supports higher-data-rate maritime links. The network has enabled programmes including the Mayflower Autonomous Ship and long-endurance environmental platforms. Iridium provides the communications and resilient positioning layer; vehicle autonomy, sensing, route decisions and mission execution remain functions of the connected platform and operator.
