About Sora-iina
Sora-iina operates Zipline aircraft from a distribution centre at Fukue Port to move medicines and medical supplies across the Goto Islands. A pharmacy or medical institution requests a shipment, staff prepare the package and the fixed-wing drone launches on a preplanned route. At the destination it releases the parcel by parachute into a designated delivery area, eliminating the need for a runway or landing pad.
The Toyota Tsusho group venture manages the aircraft, flight operations, regulatory approvals and local logistics network. Routes can cover round trips of roughly 40 kilometres and have progressed from Level 3 beyond-visual-line-of-sight operation toward Level 4 trials without assistants positioned beneath the route. The service shortens island transport time and provides an alternative when ferries, roads or staffing make urgent delivery difficult.

- 2026-02-19 - Demonstration - Sora-iina conducts area-based Level 4 medical delivery demonstration
The 19 February flight delivered medical pharmaceuticals to the rooftop of Nagasaki Tomie Hospital. The demonstration used area-based Level 4 permissions and approvals under a Cabinet Office special-zone programme. ACSL supplied its Class 1 type-certified PF2-CAT3 aircraft and provided operational support.

The service had operated since November 2025 for the Tamanoura-area nursing facility Taman’na Yuuyu. The commercial service delivers prescription medicines by drone in Goto City on Fukue Island. Sora-iina positioned the service as a way to improve medical access in ageing, sparsely populated areas and reduce workload for medical and care staff.

The planned expansion covers inspection and measurement services in Japan and overseas. Toyota Tsusho identified Sora-iina as its wholly owned drone-services subsidiary and distinguished the plan from its current logistics operations. The proposed scope includes renewable-energy facility inspection and disaster-prevention work in areas with limited human access.

A PF2-CAT3 multicopter carried prescription drugs from a clinic to the doorstep of a mobile clinic immediately after treatment. Sora-iina prepared the site and assisted delivery operations, while ACSL supplied the aircraft and conducted the Level 4 flight. The trial examined technical and operating issues for area-based route approvals and was designed to inform future regulatory proposals.

Toyota Tsusho subsidiary Sora-iina began a regular Zipline-powered delivery service for pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies across the Goto Islands. The service began regular operations after trial deliveries in late 2021. Sora-iina operated the network locally using Zipline's autonomous delivery system.
