About FBR Mantis

Mantis is FBR's fixed-base long-reach robot for automated welding in shipbuilding, mining, defence and other heavy fabrication. Dynamic Stabilisation Technology counteracts movement at the end effector across an eight-metre reach, while laser seam tracking and Verbotics programming support complex paths and multi-pass welds.

The workcell can alternate between one, two or four bays so parts are prepared while another bay is welded. Standard and tandem-wire configurations reach up to 25 kg/h deposition. FBR launched Mantis in July 2025, secured a conditional first order in January 2026 and lists deliveries from 2026.

State Machinery places conditional AUD 990,000 order for Mantis
2026-01-20 - Commercial Order - The AUD 990,000 order is for a Mantis robot intended to manufacture barges at State Machinery’s Mississippi River facility in Louisiana. Factory acceptance requires a Hopper Barge sub-assembly welding programme, recorded speed tests and third-party non-destructive weld inspection to AWS D1.1. FBR anticipated delivery in the second half of 2026 after acceptance, with installation and customer training included.

FBR launches the Mantis long-reach welding robot
2025-07-28 - Product Launch - The fixed-base system was introduced for large-scale fabrication, mining, shipbuilding and defence manufacturing. FBR listed up to 25 kg/h deposition with the tandem-wire configuration and weld travel up to four metres per minute. Laser seam finding and tracking and Verbotics path programming were included in the launch configuration.
