About REMUS 300

REMUS 300 is a small-class autonomous underwater vehicle built on HII's REMUS technology platform. Its modular energy and payload sections support field reconfiguration, wet or dry payload integration and battery exchange through blind-mated end caps. The vehicle is rated to 305 metres, reaches 5 knots and supports mission durations up to 30 hours depending on its energy configuration.

Operators program missions for autonomous execution using HII's Odyssey management suite, with navigation supported by inertial, GPS, long-baseline and Doppler-velocity inputs. Applications include mine countermeasures, search and recovery, environmental assessment, archaeology and offshore survey. The US Navy's Lionfish system is based on REMUS 300; a 2023 contract covered an initial nine vehicles with options that could expand the programme to 200.

  • U.S. Navy exercises option-year production contract for HII Lionfish SUUV

    2026-07-06 - Contract Award - HII received an option-year production contract for the U.S. Navy Lionfish small unmanned undersea vehicle, a REMUS 300-based system for undersea missions. The Lionfish program can scale to up to 200 vehicles under a five-year structure. HII had completed the 42nd Lionfish vehicle by the end of 2025.

  • UK Ministry of Defence awards HII follow-on REMUS fleet support contract

    2026-04-24 - Contract Award - The £3.04 million award covers project management, technical support, repairs, training and maintenance for both fleets. The contract was concluded on 18 November 2025 and the award notice was published on 24 April 2026. The Ministry of Defence’s SALMO team identified HII Unmanned Systems as the sole awarded contractor.

    2023-10-11 - Contract Award - The full programme could exceed $347 million if its options are exercised. The contract includes engineering services, vehicle support and auxiliary equipment. Lionfish uses a portable, open-architecture design with interchangeable payloads.
