HUBO2
About
About HUBO2
HUBO2 is a 1.2-metre, 43-kilogram humanoid with 38 degrees of freedom. Brushless and DC motors with harmonic reducers actuate its joints, while force-torque sensors in the ankles and wrists and an inertial sensor in the pelvis support balance and manipulation.
The chest contains the main computer, real-time controller and lithium-ion battery, and the head carries a vision camera. Rainbow Robotics commercialised HUBO2 from the KAIST humanoid programme and supplied it to research institutions including MIT and Google for walking, control and manipulation studies.
Context
Market context
Compact humanoid research platform from Rainbow Robotics for bipedal robotics education and research.
- Target environment: Humanoid robotics labs, universities, research institutes and controlled indoor test environments.
- Workflow context: Bipedal locomotion research, whole-body control, humanoid manipulation education and experimental robot behaviors.
- Customer context: Robotics researchers, universities and institutions needing a commercial humanoid research platform.
- Deployment model: Legacy commercial research platform sold as a humanoid robotics system, not a current industrial deployment robot.
- Commercial maturity: Fielded research platform with official Rainbow Robotics specifications and historical research adoption.
- Adoption constraints: Adoption is constrained by legacy platform age, support availability, research fit and the gap between lab demos and commercial task deployment.
- Market position: Early commercial humanoid research platform, distinct from newer warehouse and factory humanoid systems.
