50HFE

The 50HFE is an air-cooled two-stroke engine using Orbital’s FlexDI direct-injection system to operate on JP-5, JP-8, Jet A, Jet A-1 or gasoline. The integrated package includes the engine, fuel system and FlexECU electronic control unit, with CAN communication supporting connection to the aircraft’s wider management system.

Orbital states output of 2.7 kilowatts from a package weighing approximately 5.2 kilograms and a time between overhaul of 500 hours. The engine is intended for smaller tactical aircraft that need heavy-fuel compatibility without moving to a larger multi-cylinder powerplant, with environmental qualification covering altitude and wide temperature operation.
