About
About EUROGATE
EUROGATE operates container terminals and related intermodal and container services. Vessel handling, yard storage and onward freight transport form connected parts of its work across European and Mediterranean ports. The Bremen-based group was established in 1999 and is jointly owned by EUROKAI and BLG Logistics. Its automation programme combines terminal operating software, equipment control and machinery from different suppliers within working ports.
Autonomous terminal transport is being developed through staged trials. A completed Wilhelmshaven pilot tested an Embotech-controlled MAFI tractor across landside and waterside tasks. A subsequent Hamburg pilot evaluates mixed-traffic transport between rail and container terminals, including automated tractor-trailer coupling. Cooperation with ICT Logistics connects the SmartECS equipment-control platform to EUROGATE's operateMyBox planning and scheduling system. Separate stacking-crane orders support future infrastructure upgrades, with the latest Wilhelmshaven handover planned for 2028.

- 2026-10-13 - Commercial Order - Konecranes receives EUROGATE order for four automated stacking cranes
The agreement includes an option for four additional cranes at Container Terminal Hamburg. The project integrates with EUROGATE’s existing equipment and supplier-independent equipment-control architecture. Konecranes’ Active Load Control combines load-sway prevention with positioning control.
Source - 2026-08-26 - Partnership - ICT Group partners with EUROGATE on terminal automation
ICT Group will use SmartECS to orchestrate equipment from multiple vendors across EUROGATE terminals. The scope includes automated stacking cranes and automated terminal trucks. The partners will jointly develop a terminal concept in which autonomous trucks handle horizontal container transport.

The pilot began in late January and evaluates transport between the railway terminal and container terminal through straddle-carrier interchange zones. AUCOS supplies automated coupling that connects air, power and data through the kingpin, integrated with Embotech's AV Kit. Throughput, availability and process stability are the operating benchmarks; the project builds on the completed Wilhelmshaven feasibility trial.
Source - 2025-11-25 - Demonstration - EUROGATE completes autonomous terminal-tractor pilot in Wilhelmshaven
The test programme covered 18 use cases, including mixed traffic, precise quay-crane positioning and localisation without GPS. A MAFI terminal tractor used NextG drive-by-wire and Embotech autonomy, connected through ICT equipment-control and terminal systems. The work tested transport and IT integration under port conditions before wider autonomous-terminal adoption.
