Aerones
About
About Aerones
Aerones suspends remotely controlled robotic tools from a tower-mounted or crane-supported rig so they can travel along the blade or tower surface. Different modules perform lightning-protection inspection, washing, drainage-hole cleaning, leading-edge repair, coating and other maintenance processes.
The company sells the work as a field service rather than requiring wind-farm operators to purchase and operate each robot. Inspection data and work records are returned through a digital platform, allowing maintenance teams to connect identified defects with completed repairs. Aerones has deployed services across onshore and offshore wind projects in several markets.

- 2025-06-03 - Funding - Aerones secures $62M financing round to expand robotic wind turbine maintenance platform
Aerones raised $62 million to expand its robotic and AI-driven wind turbine inspection and maintenance platform. The round was co-led by Activate Capital and S2G Investments, with additional participation from Carbon Equity, Overlap Holdings, and existing investors. The financing followed Aerones' 2023 $30 million round and a 2024 EU Innovation Fund grant, supporting global expansion and technology development.
Source - 2025-05-22 - Product Launch - Aerones introduces Crawler Gen 3 blade-inspection robot
Aerones introduced Crawler Gen 3 on May 22, 2025, as its next-generation internal blade inspection crawler. The sensing stack combines 3D LiDAR, a 5K 360-degree camera, a 61-megapixel root-zone camera and adaptive LED lighting. Aerones connects the crawler's inspection data to its Visual Inspection Studio for review of in-service and pre-commissioning blade interiors.
Source - 2025-05-02 - Product Launch - Aerones launches Visual Inspection Studio for wind turbine inspection analysis
Aerones launched Visual Inspection Studio to centralize detailed wind turbine inspection data for customers. The tool combines 360-degree internal crawler videos, high-resolution drone imagery, defect tracking, AI-assisted anomaly detection, and collaborative finding review. The launch adds a software and data-analysis layer to Aerones' robotic turbine inspection workflow.
Source - 2024-10-17 - Demonstration - Aerones completes offshore robotic wind turbine maintenance technology tests in Scotland
Aerones completed offshore wind turbine maintenance technology tests at the ORE Catapult facility near Levenmouth, Scotland. The October 2024 testing was partially funded by the European Union's BLUE project. The tests validated the path toward robotic offshore turbine maintenance using Aerones' land-proven robotic systems.
Source - 2024-01-18 - Award - Aerones receives EUR4.416M EU Innovation Fund grant
The grant supports production and deployment of robotic wind turbine blade repair sets. The project budget was listed at EUR7.36 million. The recognition validates Aerones's work in inspection, monitoring or infrastructure automation workflows.
Source - 2023-01-16 - Funding - Aerones raises $30M growth round to scale robot-enabled wind turbine maintenance services
Aerones raised $30 million to scale its robotic wind turbine inspection, cleaning, and maintenance services. The company positioned its robot-enabled service model around safer and faster blade maintenance than rope-access work. The funding helped set up the later global expansion push for its turbine crawler and drone inspection stack.

Notes
Profile notes
- Aerones abandoned free-flying heavy-lift drones for tether-supported wind-turbine robots
reviewed 2026-07-20 - Aerones began with ambitious heavy-lift and firefighting drone concepts, but found free-flying systems too imprecise and constrained for its target maintenance work. It rebuilt the business around ground winches, cables and robots supported against wind-turbine blades, making the current company a wind-maintenance robotics operator rather than a conventional drone manufacturer.
