About Gander Robotics

Gander Robotics is building a hand-deployable underwater vehicle that searches for people from below the surface after a man-overboard event. A crew member can throw the unit from a vessel or aircraft, after which it submerges and uses sonar and onboard perception to scan a wider area than a rescuer can cover visually, including in darkness or poor surface conditions.

When the system identifies a person, it surfaces nearby and provides flotation together with location aids such as a flare and radio beacon. The vehicle is intended to stabilise the casualty and preserve contact while a crewed rescue is organised; final recovery remains with the rescue team. Its compact launch method and autonomous search workflow are designed for ships, offshore operators and maritime responders that need a rescue asset available without a permanently crewed fast boat.
