About Teledyne Webb Research
Teledyne Webb Research builds autonomous ocean-observation platforms for long-duration measurement below the surface. Its Slocum buoyancy-driven gliders carry modular sensor payloads through repeated dives, while APEX profiling floats collect water-column data to depths of 2,000 metres. The portfolio also includes drifting instruments, moored sound sources and associated communications equipment.
Slocum vehicles support more than 40 sensor types for physical, chemical, biological and acoustic measurements. Operators plan and monitor missions through web-based piloting tools, recover data by satellite and configure vehicles for coastal or deep-ocean work. The systems serve scientific, commercial and defence programmes including climate observation, hydrography, fisheries research and persistent maritime sensing.

The award was made through Teledyne Marine under the Royal Navy Future Maritime Data Gathering programme and supports Atlantic Bastion. The package includes Sentinel and Slocum gliders, APEX floats and associated services. The systems will provide persistent oceanographic data for operational planning, maritime safety and defence activities.
