About GUSS Automation
GUSS Automation, acquired by John Deere in 2025, manufactures autonomous sprayers for orchards, vineyards and high-density crops. Full-size GUSS, mini GUSS and Herbicide GUSS address canopy spraying and targeted weed treatment without an onboard driver.
GPS, lidar, vehicle sensors and proprietary guidance keep each machine on mapped rows under tree cover. One operator can monitor as many as eight sprayers from a laptop, viewing position, speed and spray rate and responding to diagnostic alerts. Select Spray adjusts application to detected canopy size, while Herbicide GUSS detects and spot-sprays weeds. Customer deliveries began in 2019 and the machines are supported through agricultural-equipment dealers.
