About
About Leonardo
Leonardo develops aerospace, defence and security systems across aircraft, helicopters, sensors, electronics, naval systems and cyber operations. Its autonomous-systems exposure includes uncrewed aircraft, remotely piloted platforms, mission payloads and command systems for surveillance and defence.
Robotics forms one part of a diversified prime-contractor portfolio. Leonardo can supply complete platforms or integrate sensing, communications and mission equipment into wider government programmes, so product status and delivery scale vary by customer and programme.

Events
- 2026-06-22 - Demonstration - Leonardo and Baykar complete K-SWARM crewed-uncrewed flight tests
The tests included autonomous taxi, takeoff, rejoin and formation command from M-346 pilots. The trial used RF data exchange, C2 and protected autonomy layers between crewed and uncrewed aircraft. The activity advances crewed-uncrewed teaming for collaborative combat air operations.
Source - 2026-06-16 - Regulatory - Italy conditionally approves Leonardo and Baykar drone joint venture
The approval concerns the 50/50 Leonardo-Baykar UAV joint venture now branded LBA Systems. Reported conditions limit sales and further development to Europe, NATO and strategically aligned markets. The event reinforces a Europe-Turkey industrial bridge for tactical UAV manufacturing and support.
Source - 2025-10-09 - Partnership - Fluid Wire Robotics starts space-arm development with Leonardo
The design separates motors and sensors from the arm to protect sensitive hardware in hostile environments. Initial work covered development and simulations, following project kick-off meetings held in September. Leonardo’s Open Innovation, Space Division and Robotics teams participated alongside technical management and project coordinators.
Source - 2025-07-29 - Partnership - LBA Systems proposes Leonardo payloads for Baykar UAS at IDEF 2025
Leonardo proposed payload integrations for Baykar unmanned aircraft through the LBA Systems joint venture at IDEF 2025. The showcased direction included equipping Baykar UAS with Leonardo mission systems and payloads.
Source - 2025-06-17 - Demonstration - Near Earth completes autonomous AW139 flight for USMC ALC
The AW139 flew without an onboard pilot or remote-operator input during the test. The flight advanced Near Earth's autonomous-helicopter programme toward operational deployment.
Source - 2025-06-16 - Company Formation - Leonardo and Baykar establish LBA Systems unmanned technologies joint venture
Leonardo and Baykar established LBA Systems as a 50:50 joint venture dedicated to unmanned technologies. The company is legally and operationally headquartered in Italy. LBA Systems is intended to design, develop, manufacture and support unmanned aircraft systems.
Source - 2025-03-06 - Partnership - Leonardo and Baykar sign MoU for unmanned technologies joint venture
Leonardo and Baykar signed an MoU for development of unmanned technologies. The planned joint venture combines Leonardo payload, certification and systems-integration capabilities with Baykar unmanned aircraft platforms. The agreement set up the later LBA Systems joint venture around unmanned aircraft technologies.
Source - 2024-07-18 - Product Launch - Vertical unveils advanced VX4 prototype with strategic supplier systems
Vertical said 60% of the prototype's technology came from strategic partners including GKN Aerospace, Hanwha, Honeywell, Leonardo, Molicel and Syensqo. The prototype introduced Vertical's proprietary battery technology and a 20% higher power-to-weight ratio, with a target cruise speed of up to 150 mph. Vertical planned to begin the flight-test programme after receiving a UK Civil Aviation Authority Permit to Fly.
Source - 2023-06-06 - Acquisition - FlyingBasket adds Leonardo as a minority shareholder
The option was agreed in 2021; Cysero separately invested in March 2022 and held approximately 25 percent. Leonardo gained a seat on FlyingBasket’s board, with the founders and managers retaining approximately 65 percent of the company. The partnership was intended to support cargo-drone logistics using Leonardo’s infrastructure and technological assets.
