About Proteus Maritime

Proteus is developing an undersea mesh architecture described by Australian defence and research partners as a form of underwater Wi-Fi. Instead of requiring every submerged platform to communicate directly with a distant command point, nearby vehicles and sensors can relay information through distributed nodes.

The technology is intended to maintain a shared operating picture despite intermittent links and limited underwater bandwidth. Current work remains in research, demonstration and defence-development programmes rather than a mature commercial communications network deployed at global scale.
