Tightbeam Photonics is developing optical ground stations around packaged silicon-photonic receivers and chip-scale adaptive-optics technology. The receiver corrects atmospheric distortion and couples a weak, moving laser signal into single-mode fibre, where conventional optical amplification and networking equipment can process the data.

The architecture is intended to reduce the size and alignment burden of traditional observatory-style laser terminals, enabling mobile, remote and tactically deployable stations. Tightbeam works with satellite operators and communications programmes to configure apertures, pointing equipment, receivers and network interfaces around mission requirements. The company remains in the development and integration stage, with its commercial proposition centred on supplying customised optical-link infrastructure rather than operating a global ground-station network itself.
