About RLS
RLS magnetic encoders measure motion without physical contact between the sensing element and the magnetic scale or ring. Its portfolio includes encoder ICs, miniature rotary and linear modules, through-hole designs and off-axis absolute rings. AksIM-2 and AksIM-4 products reach resolutions up to 20 or 21 bits, while smaller modules fit compact motors and joints.
Robot designers mount the encoder around a joint, wheel or actuator and feed absolute or incremental position into the motion controller. Non-contact sensing tolerates dust, vibration and wider mechanical clearances than many optical systems. RLS operates as an associate company of Renishaw, which provides additional sales and motion-control integration while RLS retains design and manufacture in Slovenia.
