About

About KANGAROO

KANGAROO is PAL Robotics’ biped research platform for dynamic locomotion and whole-body control. The platform is 1.60 m tall, weighs 50–65 kg, and provides 14–40 degrees of freedom depending on its arm configuration. Low-inertia legs use custom linear actuators with integrated force sensing, while a two-axis torso and 2 kHz EtherCAT loop support walking, balance, running, and jumping research.

Ubuntu, ROS 2, and PAL OS expose current, speed, position, impedance, and optional force-torque control. Developers receive URDF and MJCF models plus MuJoCo, reinforcement-learning, imitation-learning, and motion-retargeting tools. Optional arms, grippers, force-torque sensors, and four RGB-D cameras extend the biped platform into whole-body experiments.

  • PAL Robotics integrates Orientus sensors in TALOS and Kangaroo

2024-03-26 - Capability - Orientus supplied inertial and attitude measurements at 1 kHz with low latency. PAL combined base-pose measurements with joint kinematics and ground-contact information for whole-body torque control. The compact sensor was integrated in both TALOS and Kangaroo; the platforms were used for different locomotion research.
