FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System

FrontRunner links autonomous Komatsu haul trucks with DISPATCH fleet management, precision positioning, wireless communications and onboard obstacle detection. The system assigns trucks, manages routes, spacing and speed, and coordinates loading and dumping within a commissioned mine. Individual deployments use compatible truck platforms and site-specific control, network and supervision infrastructure.

Komatsu reached 1,000 commissioned autonomous ultra-class trucks in April 2026, including a 290-tonne-payload 930E-5AT at Nevada Gold Mines. Customer fleets had moved more than 11.5 billion tonnes across North America, South America, Australia and Europe. Those cumulative milestones cover the global FrontRunner portfolio, while costs, utilisation, maintenance and safety performance must be evaluated for each mine.
