RSL 400

RSL 400 is Leuze's configurable safety-laser-scanner family for monitoring hazardous areas, access points and the paths of mobile equipment. It creates protective and warning fields across a 270-degree scan; the selected safety outputs stop or constrain the connected machine when a protected area is breached. Some variants also output distance and signal-strength measurements for natural-feature navigation on automated guided vehicles.

Models span protective ranges from three to 8.25 metres and provide up to 200 configurable fields. I/O versions support two independent protective functions, while PROFIsafe variants can monitor four fields in parallel over PROFINET. Navigation-capable models provide 0.1-degree angular data. The scanner is rated Type 3, PL d and SIL 2, but achieving those levels for a machine still requires correct placement, field design, integration, validation and risk assessment.
