RIPSAW M5
About
About RIPSAW M5
RIPSAW M5 is the fifth generation of Textron Systems' heavy tracked robotic-vehicle family. The uncrewed platform weighs about 9,525 kg, measures 5.94 × 2.67 m and carries up to 3,629 kg on its modular deck. Textron offers diesel and hybrid-electric drivetrains and describes a speed above 40 km/h, allowing the vehicle to accompany manoeuvre forces while keeping operators outside the hull.
Open architecture supports mission-specific sensors, communications equipment and weapon stations, so payload configuration must be identified separately from the base M5. The U.S. Army evaluated the vehicle during a Soldier Operational Experiment at Fort Carson in August 2020, where Textron demonstrated the platform to Army personnel. M5 remains a field-tested programme platform; it is distinct from the lighter M3, the amphibious A3 and the fast wheeled M1.
Timeline

2020-08-06 - Demonstration - Army personnel evaluated the exact RIPSAW M5 robotic combat vehicle during the August 6 experiment. The demonstrated platform used an open architecture and carried Real-Time Situational Awareness sensors supplied by FLIR. Textron specified a modular flat deck with capacity for payloads up to 8,000 lb.
