ThunderB-VTOL

About

About ThunderB-VTOL

ThunderB-VTOL is BlueBird Aero Systems’ hybrid fixed-wing unmanned aircraft for tactical reconnaissance and surveillance. Vertical lift enables launch and recovery from confined land areas or a ship’s deck; fixed-wing cruise provides endurance advertised at more than 12 hours. The current manufacturer page lists a 40 kg take-off weight and communications reaching 150 km with the digital link and tracking antenna.

Its modular payload bay and quick-release connectors support stabilised day and cooled-infrared cameras and optional mapping payloads. The aircraft can supply GPS-marked video and photogrammetric mapping, while navigation-jamming protection and three integrated communications links support mission continuity. A two-person crew operates the system through BlueBird ground control. Configurations are arranged directly with the manufacturer for ISTAR, maritime security, border monitoring and mapping missions.
