About
About b12 Labs
Automation Copilot translates natural-language experimental instructions into workflows for instrument stacks such as Chemspeed systems. Plate Designer creates high-throughput experiment layouts, while the company’s synthesis-planning tools evaluate routes from purchasable starting materials and connect proposed chemistry to practical laboratory execution.
The platform is designed to coordinate existing instruments rather than replace them with proprietary hardware. Chemists can review a proposed transformation, generate a plate plan and pass an executable protocol to supported laboratory equipment without writing low-level automation code for every experiment.
Team
- Zlatko Jončev - Co-founder and CEO - Leads b12’s chemical-synthesis platform and research-client business.
- Andres M. Bran - Co-founder and CTO - Leads development of b12’s synthesis agents and laboratory-automation software.
- Adriana Faraone - Research Scientist - Runs experiments in the b12 Foundry and converts proposed chemistry into executable laboratory workflows.
- Victor Sabanza Gil - Research team member - Contributes experimental-selection expertise to b12’s chemical-synthesis and automation work.
Timeline
Events
- 2026-10-08 - Product Launch - b12 Labs launches Foundry robotic chemistry service
Customers receive compounds and every experimental result, including failed reactions. The company reports work with three large pharmaceutical companies and clients in biotech, energy, universities, flavour and fragrance. b12 was seeking advice on setting up its own Bay Area wet lab.

Chemists can supply strategic guidance and laboratory constraints as the system revises a route. b12’s 100-target evaluation reported recovery of expert strategic ideas in 80% of cases. Free access opened to academic and nonprofit researchers, while Palladium and Cobalt cover later experiment-design and automation stages.

The system searches papers, patents and related transformations before selecting reagents and conditions. Plans account for substrate properties, solubility, catalyst compatibility and operating constraints. b12 reported a 91% yield from one internally tested first-plate design; the result is specific to that run.
