About AILOS Robotics
AILOS Robotics is industrialising the R2poweR gearbox developed through Vrije Universiteit Brussel's BruBotics research group. The transmission combines a high reduction ratio and torque density with low resistance when an external force turns the output. This backdrivability supports compliant movement and safer physical interaction in humanoids, collaborative arms, exoskeletons and prosthetic devices.
The Brussels spin-off is developing the gearbox through mechanical design, prototype manufacture and test programmes covering torque, speed, efficiency, vibration, temperature, durability and backdrive behaviour. Its aim is to give robot manufacturers a compact joint component that can carry substantial loads without the mass and energy penalties of conventional high-ratio transmissions. AILOS licensed the underlying VUB technology in 2025 and has produced a validated minimum viable design. It is now working toward customer pilots, production optimisation and a supply chain capable of volume manufacturing in Europe and the United States.
