About
About Fugro
Fugro collects offshore and subsea data using uncrewed surface vessels, remotely operated vehicles, airborne systems and conventional survey assets. Its Blue Essence USVs can carry survey sensors and deploy electric ROVs while crews pilot and monitor the mission from remote operations centres. This reduces the people and fuel required offshore while maintaining live access to the collected data.
Customers use the service for seabed mapping, pipeline inspection, offshore wind development and infrastructure monitoring. Fugro supplies the robotic platform together with mission planning, vehicle operation, positioning, sensor acquisition, processing and engineering interpretation. A growing network of remote centres, including Kuala Lumpur, coordinates vessels across operating regions and allows specialists to participate without travelling to every site.

Events
- 2024-01-25 - Regulatory - Fugro Vaquita receives unrestricted UK coastguard approval
Fugro announced Vaquita's Category 0 approval on January 25, 2024. The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency granted its highest approval level for autonomous vessels. The approval made Vaquita the largest fully remote USV with unrestricted access for projects farther offshore.
Source - 2023-11-28 - Acquisition - Fugro agrees to acquire SEA-KIT International
Fugro described SEA-KIT as its long-standing partner in uncrewed surface-vessel development. The transaction added SEA-KIT's marine robotics capability to Fugro's remote-operations platform.
Source - 2023-04-25 - Demonstration - Blue Essence completes first fully remote offshore-wind ROV inspection
Fugro completed the fully remote inspection at the Aberdeen offshore wind farm by April 25, 2023. The Blue Volta eROV inspected turbine structures while a hull-mounted sensor mapped the seabed. Vattenfall and ORE Catapult jointly funded the real-world technology demonstration.
Source - 2023-01-30 - Deployment - Fugro completes first fully remote offshore inspection for TAQA
The inspection covered seabed mobility, pipeline depth, visual and cathodic-protection measurements within the 500-metre zone. The project inspected two platforms and more than 40 kilometres of pipeline off the Netherlands. Teams in the Netherlands and Aberdeen controlled Blue Essence and Blue Volta over satellite links without offshore survey personnel.
Source - 2021-11-10 - Deployment - Blue Essence begins first European project from Rotterdam
Blue Essence began its first Netherlands project on November 10, 2021. The vessel left Rotterdam without personnel onboard and was controlled from an onshore centre over a satellite link. Fugro configured the system for offshore-asset inspection, construction support and hydrographic and geophysical surveys.
Source - 2021-04-28 - Product Launch - Fugro launches Blue Essence uncrewed vessel
Blue Essence supports remote and autonomous offshore survey work. The system pairs uncrewed vessels with remote operations centres. The launch expanded Fugro uncrewed maritime survey capability.
Source - 2020-08-04 - Commercial Order - Fugro orders two SEA-KIT X-class USVs
The two 12-metre vessels were intended for operations in the North Sea and Asia-Pacific region. Planned equipment included underwater-vehicle launch and recovery systems and station-keeping capabilities. Fugro planned to connect the vessels to its remote operations centres for remotely controlled inspections.
Source - 2020-03-01 - Partnership - Fugro and SEA-KIT partner on uncrewed surface vessels
The planned compact uncrewed surface vessels could deploy ROVs and AUVs while controlled from Fugro remote-operations centres. The programme targeted lower-emission offshore inspection without crews aboard the host vessel.
