About
About Boxfish Robotics
Boxfish Robotics designs actively stabilised underwater vehicles for inspection, survey, imaging and scientific work. Its catalogue includes tethered ROVs, hovering AUVs and autonomous resident vehicles. Boxfish Alpha and LUNA support professional imaging and observation, while ARV-i and the Boxfish AUV extend missions into longer-duration autonomous operation.
The systems combine multi-axis propulsion, navigation, imaging and payload interfaces for use around infrastructure, marine habitats and difficult subsea sites. Boxfish has also built application-specific platforms for documentary and research projects. Vehicle endurance, autonomy and payload capability vary by model, with tethered and untethered systems serving different operational constraints.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-06-08 - Capability - Boxfish develops underwater robotics platform for Great Lakes documentary
The June 8, 2026 article names Boxfish Robotics as technology partner for the Hidden Below: The Great Lakes documentary project. The platform is tailored for freshwater exploration challenges including variable visibility, depth and terrain. The project uses unmanned underwater systems for live-streamed exploration and cinematic/scientific imaging in the Great Lakes.
Source - 2025-04-10 - Product Launch - Boxfish launches tetherless hovering AUV for marine research
The AUV is fully autonomous, tetherless, and designed to hover underwater. SafePath Planner software supports mission planning and monitoring. The vehicle operates to 600 meters and supports sensors for water quality, video, and stereo-camera surveys.
Source - 2024-08-08 - Partnership - Water Linked DVL A50 incorporated into Boxfish autonomous underwater platforms
Boxfish integrated the DVL A50 into its control systems for stable position holding during underwater imaging. The Performance model was added to the Boxfish AUV and ARV-i autonomous product line. Boxfish fuses DVL output with other sensor data for navigation, altitude control and close infrastructure inspection.
Source - 2022-08-16 - Product Launch - Boxfish launches Alpha inspection ROV for commercial diving operations
The Alpha was positioned for inspection, search and rescue, and recovery work. Live and recorded 4K video is paired with log data such as GPS coordinates and depth. The ROV supports asset inspection for water tanks, mines, jetties, bridges, and pipelines.
Source - 2021-10-08 - Product Launch - Boxfish Robotics prepares ARV-i resident AUV launch
Boxfish Research and Transmark Subsea developed ARV-i as a joint venture. The vehicle targeted persistent underwater asset monitoring with autonomous resident operation. The product gives Boxfish Robotics prepares ARV-i resident AUV launch a concrete offering for maritime autonomy, underwater robotics or marine inspection workflows.
