JAI has operated in the vision industry for more than 60 years and reports more than one million cameras sold globally. The company serves customers through entities in Europe, Asia and the United States and distribution partners in more than 35 countries.
Its technical differentiation is breadth across both conventional single-sensor cameras and prism-based systems that capture multiple spectral bands through a shared optical path. Products span compact area-scan units, high-speed line-scan models and visible-plus-NIR or SWIR configurations using Camera Link, GigE Vision, CoaXPress, USB3 Vision and fibre interfaces. In robotics, JAI is an embedded perception supplier rather than a robot builder or vision-software platform.

- 2026-06-18 - Product Launch - JAI introduces Wave visible-plus-SWIR area-scan camera
The InGaAs sensor covers approximately 400–1700 nm, allowing one camera to reveal characteristics outside conventional visible imaging. The model delivers 1.3 MP resolution at up to 90 frames per second over GigE Vision. Its 5 µm pixels, C-mount and thermoelectric cooling target inspection systems that would otherwise require multiple cameras.

WAL-1001-GE provides a 1024-pixel line and up to a 29 kHz line rate with 12.5 µm pixels. The cameras target defect detection, subsurface inspection and material differentiation in difficult imaging conditions. The 2K WAL-2001-GE uses pixel-shift to extend the family to higher-resolution line scanning.

Watabe previously spent more than 20 years leading JAI’s Japanese operations and returned with machine-vision industry experience. He is based in the company’s Yokohama office and works with JAI’s Executive Vice President and Global Management Team. JAI linked the leadership change to a new product pipeline scheduled to begin launching from 2025 onward.
