About Simumatik

Simumatik is an industrial emulation platform owned by Virtualware. Its component-based workspaces model mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and mechatronic systems, while a web client, cloud library and gateway connect those models to external software and hardware. Engineers can test PLC logic, robot motion, signal timing and complete production-line behavior before equipment is installed or changed.

The platform supports virtual commissioning, digital-twin development, remote engineering and automation education. Documented configurations include Siemens TIA Portal and PLCSIM Advanced, OMRON NX/NJ controllers with Sysmac Studio, Bosch DeviceBridge, RoboDK control through Python, industrial robots, conveyors, gantries and automated guided vehicles. Simumatik also sells subscriptions through international distributors and works with education partners on realistic virtual training equipment.

Virtualware 2007, S.A. acquired 100% of Simumatik AB on 18 October 2024 for €1.371 million; the legal subsidiary is now Virtualware Sweden AB and Simumatik continues as an active product brand. Virtualware reported €311,556 of Simumatik revenue for 2025, compared with €33,839 for 2024, and has integrated Simumatik workspaces with its VIROO enterprise XR platform.

Timeline

Events

  • 2026-05-06 - Demonstration - Simumatik and Asamaka demonstrate virtual EV battery assembly

The virtual robot moved battery modules from a feeder conveyor into defined positions in a battery tray before the gantry placed the cover. Virtual I/O reproduced PLC-style signals while a Python-based RoboDK API coordinated robot motion and process execution. The environment supported collision checks, motion-feasibility validation, signal-timing analysis and cycle-time review before physical deployment.

  • 2025-10-07 - Deployment - Simumatik supports remote commissioning of Swedish engine-production line

Simumatik built the full emulation model from Fill CAD data and connected separate PLCSIM Advanced instances for the legacy and new PLCs. A simulated PN/PN bridge and remote access let Fill engineers test PLC logic, HMI screens, interfaces and manual and automatic modes from Austria. The production-line expansion was delivered in summer 2025 and the virtual work reduced on-site testing and travel while avoiding disruption to the existing line.

  • 2025-05-22 - Partnership - Simumatik and Asamaka partner on virtual commissioning

Asamaka engineers use virtual replicas to test control logic, troubleshoot errors and validate performance before physical equipment is installed. The cloud workspace lets designers, engineers and technicians review system behaviour, test PLC code and iterate from different locations. The partnership also covers workforce development and complements Asamaka's use of Virtualware's VIROO platform.

  • 2025-02-20 - Capability - Simumatik adds bidirectional VIROO XR integration

VIROO players can start or stop a Simumatik simulation and see changes reflected in real time. Bidirectional interaction lets users inspect and manipulate digital twins from an immersive XR environment. Virtualware positioned the combined platforms for industrial system validation, workforce training and collaborative automation design.

  • 2024-10-21 - Acquisition - Virtualware acquires Simumatik for €1.371 million

The consideration comprised €447,000 in cash and 110,000 Virtualware shares valued at €8.40 each. Virtualware's audited accounts list Virtualware Sweden AB as a wholly owned software-development and IT-services subsidiary. The parent allocated the purchase-price excess to the Simumatik virtual-commissioning platform and linked the deal to expansion in North America and the European Union.

  • 2024-06-04 - Demonstration - Simumatik validates UREBLOCK plant expansion with Serna Automation

The virtual model was used to examine plant logistics, potential bottlenecks, workflow and the proposed production layout. Serna Automation connected OMRON NX and NJ PLCs and Sysmac Studio to the Simumatik environment. The validation covered automation logic, physical layout and interactions between control and production systems before equipment was moved.

  • 2024-03-14 - Demonstration - Simumatik and Bosch BGSW build DeviceBridge digital-factory demo

The layout modelled injection moulding, extrusion, quality control, pick-and-place packaging, lid sealing, Active Shuttle transport and buffering. Siemens TIA Portal and PLCSIM Advanced supplied the emulated PLC environment while DeviceBridge collected real-time machine data. Bosch showcased the operational digital twin at SPS in Nuremberg as an integration of production simulation with IT and OT monitoring.
