About STEP Robotics
STEP's electronics-assembly applications combine SCARA robots with machine vision, fixtures and conveyor signals. In a laptop touchpad assembly configuration, cameras locate components in trays and identify mounting features before the robot positions the parts. Other configurations handle circuit boards after coding or sort electronic materials using vision-derived positions.
These cells illustrate how robot motion is integrated with inspection and material presentation around the arm. Different robot models, suction fixtures and vision systems are selected for the station's process. Within STEP Electric's wider automation business, servo drives, motors, programmable controllers and motion-control cards provide adjacent equipment for machine builders developing coordinated production systems.

The cells preserve robot-position data while systems are powered down so operation can resume from the stored position. Saft said the cells provide more than three years of backup power, exceeding the robots’ expected 24,000-hour service life. The order marked Saft’s entry into China’s industrial-robotics market.
