About Toray Advanced Composites
The business traces its operating history to TenCate Advanced Composites in 1972. Toray Industries acquired the company in 2018 and renamed it Toray Advanced Composites in 2019, retaining production sites in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Its portfolio includes thermoset prepregs, Toray Cetex thermoplastic materials, tooling prepregs, film adhesives, syntactics, resins and compression-moulded carbon-fibre parts.
The company’s relevance to physical aviation systems lies in qualified material performance and production process support rather than autonomy software. Joby Aviation finalised a long-term agreement for Toray prepreg carbon-fibre systems used to achieve the strength, toughness and low mass required by its electric aircraft structures. Toray’s out-of-autoclave and thermoplastic processing expertise also matters to production rate and manufacturing cost, making this a direct enabling-material relationship rather than general chemicals exposure.
